Strayhorn High School seniors Micah White, Peyton Nations, and Aleigha Whittle recently completed the EPIC Work Experience Program. Through a partnership with Three Rivers Planning & Development District and AccelerateMS, these students dedicated 100 hours to local businesses and classrooms. Their work at Strayhorn Elementary, Mustang Nutrition, and Senatobia Main Street provided them with essential professional insight and hands-on skills. We are proud of these seniors for taking proactive steps toward their future careers while serving our community. This initiative is made possible through the dedication of our Career Coaches and support from ARPA funds.

Josh Buchanan and Chris Blount from the Northwest Mississippi Community College HVAC program visited our career technical center to speak with HVAC and Automotive students. They highlighted the competitive nature of these programs and the high level of technical skill required for success in the field. Students learned about the specific admission requirements and the importance of submitting applications early to secure a spot in these high-demand tracks. This visit provided a clear roadmap for our Wildcats as they prepare to transition into specialized trade careers. We appreciate NWCC for helping our students understand what it takes to thrive in the modern workforce.

Strayhorn Elementary sixth graders recently visited Northwest Mississippi Community College to explore a diverse range of career opportunities during Career Week. This immersive experience allowed students to see firsthand the various pathways available to them within our local community and beyond. By engaging with collegiate programs early, these students are beginning to connect their current studies to future professional success. We believe that exposing students to these options at a young age is key to building a strong and prepared workforce. It was an inspiring day watching our future leaders discover the many ways they can contribute to society.

This week, we celebrated the incredible students of our Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SSAC) as they officially wrapped up a year of leadership and advocacy.
These student leaders didn't just sit at the table this year; they led the conversation. The group stood before the School Board to present their "Lessons Learned," offering thoughtful reflections on the student experience. We also heard a special update from Townsend Keizor, who shared the latest news and successes from the IHS Bass Fishing Club!  To celebrate their hard work, we traded the board room for the bowling lanes!
We want to give a special shout-out to our graduating seniors! Thank you for your dedicated service to the SSAC:
• Daniella Najera (Independence High)
• Julissa Varela (Strayhorn High)
• Aleigha White (Strayhorn High – not pictured)
To our SSAC members: Thank you for your time, your honesty, and your vision. You have been a powerful voice for your peers, and we are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished. Best of luck to our seniors on their next chapter!  #TogetherAchievingTeamExcellence
