Overview

We are pleased to announce that we have completed our Aruba Wireless project to provide the school district wireless network access for all of its mobile devices.  Wireless surveys have been performed and we have coverage in all areas within the school with the exception of gymnasiums.   Currently we are not allowing students to connect to our wireless network with their personal phones and devices.  We are providing access for teachers and other staff as well as providing access to mobile devices (Chromebooks, Tablets, Laptops, etc.) owned by TCSD.

In the past we have had random Access Points placed throughout the network.  We now have a managed solution that will provide more consistent access to the network.  Previously there was a single network key that was given to teachers and staff.  What we have found is that half of the teachers don’t know the key, yet hundreds of students do because we can see them accessing the network.

The information you will now provide will be the username and password you use to sign on to your computer.  It would not be wise to tell a student your password as they WILL tell every student in the school.  They will then potentially have access to your documents, gradebook, email, etc. if you use a common password for all of these.  If we see student devices connecting to the wireless network with your usernames/passwords, we will notify you, disable the account, and require that you change your password.  This has happened already with one staff member.  This is not to punish you, but to keep our systems secure.

There is currently a guest account which has limited access to the network.  That account can only access the Internet, but not the local TCSD network.  Access and bandwidth are also limited for the guest account so it’s not something you want to use every day.  The password will be changed occasionally and given to principals for guests who require access.

Please see the following information for instruction on how to connect your device to the new “TCSD Aruba WiFi” wireless network.

 School Issued Laptop

If you are connecting from a school issued laptop, not additional steps will be required.  Connection settings will be pushed out to your laptop automatically and connection to the new network will happen automatically.  When you click the WiFi icon in the lower right corner of your taskbar, you will see a network labeled “TCSD Aruba WiFi (Staff)”.  If you see this and are connected, then there is nothing further you need to do.  If you see this and still are not connected, please contact the Technology Department by submitting a Technology Help Request Ticket.

 Personal Laptop (Vista/Win7)

If you are connecting from a personal laptop with Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system, you will connect by following the steps below:

Click the WiFi icon in the lower right corner of your taskbar near the system clock.  You will see a menu like this:

Find the network labeled “TCSD Aruba WiFi

Select it and click the “Connect” button.

You will then receive a login screen like the one show below:

The username / password combination will be the same network login you use to sign in to your school computer or laptop.

Enter your user login information and click “OK

You should then see a Windows Security Alert like the one show below:

Please click “Connect” and ignore the security warning.

This is a private network owned by TCSD and your personal laptop does not know this network so Windows is warning you.  The prompt should not re-appear if you choose “Connect” and complete the network setup.

If you were successful, you should now have a wireless profile stored in your computer for the new TCSD Aruba WiFi network.  When you click the wireless icon in the taskbar, you should see the “Connected” status next to “TCSD Aruba WiFi”.

Guest Account

Guest accounts are available for special purposes such as when consultants, mentors, vendors, etc. come into the district.  The guest account is a limited account that will have basic access to the internet.  A guest account will not be able to sign in on computers or access the local TCSD network.  The instructions for connecting to the guest account are listed below.  Only principals and building administrators will have access to the login information.  This information is also subject to change.  Principals and Admins will be informed when new passwords are issued.  Please consult with school principal or administrator for guest access.

From your laptop, tablet, or phone, find your wireless connection settings by one of the above methods.  Search for and connect to the "TCSD Guest" network.

Click "Connect Anyway" if you receive a security warning.

Once connected, open your web browser of choice.  You will see a splash page like the one below, requesting you to accept a user agreement and enter a username and password.  This information will be supplied by the school principal or building administrator.

**Please note you must select "agree" option before signing in.
